Meeting Agenda
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all meetings will be every 1st & 3rd Mondays via Zoom for 45 minutes. We will meet together in the beginning for our opening ceremony. Then we may branch off to breakout rooms, depending on our time. Girls must learn the Girl Scout Promise, Law, and songs by memory. The following is our General Bi-monthly meeting agenda:
Opening Ceremony
Opening Prayer
Prayer Leader: For our opening ceremony, we always begin with prayer. Please close your eyes and bow your head in reverence to God. Dear Father in Heaven, we know we are your children, we want to serve you faithfully, and we want to keep our Girl Scout Promise. Help us to listen to your voice; help us to be willing and quick to do your work; help us to be friendly and loving; and help us to thank you every day for all your gifts to us. In Jesus's name, Amen.
Flag Salute
Flag Salute Leader: We are going to recite the Flag Salute. Please put your right hand over your heart. Ready, begin.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The Black National Anthem
"Lift Every Voice and Sing" was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday on February 12, 1900, by 500 school children at the segregated Stanton School in Jacksonville, Florida. The school’s principal, James Weldon Johnson, wrote the words to introduce its honored guest, Booker T. Washington. The poem was set to music in 1905 by Johnson's brother John. In 1919, the NAACP dubbed it "The Negro National Anthem" for its power in voicing the cry for liberation and affirmation for African-American people. The first stanza is that of rejoicing. The second one becomes more somber, and should be sung slower, as it depicts slavery and the scars it left. The third stanza moves us to the anticipation of God’s continuous guidance. When singing in person, we stand and sing in unison. “Lift Every Voice and Sing” also known as the “Black National Anthem.”
Girl Scout Promise
Girl Scout Promise Leader: We are going to recite the Girl Scout Promise. Please raise your left hand, at the same level of your chin, showing the Girl Scout sign with your three fingers--your index finger, middle finger, and ring finger. You will repeat after me. Ready, begin.
On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law.
Girl Scout Law
Girl Scout Law Leader: We are going to recite the Girl Scout Law. Please raise your left hand showing the Girl Scout sign with your three fingers--your index finger, middle finger, and ring finger. You will repeat after me. Ready, begin.
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Girl Scout Songs
Song Leader: In 1761, John Wesley penned these iconic guidelines for corporate singing for church congregations. For our troop, we have adapted these directions to help us do our very best in corporate singing. Opening and closing ceremony songs will be changed from time to time.
1. Learn these tunes before you learn any others, afterwards learn as many as you please. The lesson to be learned here is to form a familiar repertoire. It doesn’t mean don’t incorporate new music, but don’t be so “new” driven that you lose your roots. You should have a core selection of songs.
2. Sing them exactly as they are printed, without altering or mending them at all; and if you have learned to sing them otherwise, unlearn it as soon as you can. The lesson to be learned is that we should stick to the same melody lines that people know.
3. Sing Together– see that you join the congregation as frequently as you can. Let not a slight degree of weakness or weariness hinder you. If it is a cross to you, take it up and you will find a blessing. The lesson to be learned here is: singing together is good for the individual. We want everyone to lift their hearts (and voices) in singing even if you don’t feel like it. Show your thankful heart through song.
4. Sing Joyfully– and with good courage. Refrain from singing like you are half-asleep; but lift up your voice with strength. Do not be afraid of your voice, or be ashamed of people hearing it. If you can sing pop and R & B songs with enthusiasm, then you can sing our Girl Scouts songs the same way--with joy and courage.
5. Sing Modestly – not to be heard above or distinct from the rest of the [troop] that you may not destroy the harmony, but strive to unite your voices together so as to make one melodious sound. Corporate singing is about many individuals joining as one voice. Also, it means that one voice shouldn’t distract other people’s attention from the “chorus” of sound.
6. Sing in time – whatever time is sung, be sure to keep with it. Do not run before and do not stay behind it; but pay attention to the leading voices and move exactly as you can and take care not to sing too slow. The lesson to be learned here is: Singing the melody and rhythms in unison is important.
7. Sing spiritually – have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself or any one else. In order to attend strictly to the sense of what you sing, and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound, but offered to God continually.
The lesson to be learned here is: we don’t do this for us. It’s for God first and foremost. Put God first and foremost in your offerings of worship. Before singing, we should always make time to turn our hearts and minds to God. Remember it’s not about how tight the arrangement is, how good the guitar solo sounds, or how much vibrato the lead vocalist uses. Ultimately, it’s all about turning our eyes to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Closing Ceremony
Now we have come to the end of our Girl Scout meeting. For our Closing Ceremony, we will have some final announcements, sing our closing songs, and say a closing prayer.
"Linger" Lyrics
Hmmm, I want to linger.
Hmmm, A little longer.
Hmmm, A little longer,
Here with you.
Hmmm, It's such a perfect night.
Hmmm, It doesn't seem quite right.
Hmmm, That this should be,
My last with you.
Hmmm, And come September,
Hmmm, I will remember,
Hmmm, Our Scouting days,
Of friendships true.
Hmmm, And as the years go by,
Hmmm, I'll think of you and sigh.
Hmmm, This is good night
And not good bye.
Hmmm I want to linger.
Hmmm A little longer.
Hmmm A little longer,
Here with you.
"Green Trees" Lyrics
Green trees around you
Blue skies above
Friends all around you and
A world filled with love
Taps sounding softly
Hearts beating true
As campers sing
Good night to you
Day is done | Gone the sun | From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies
From each dying glowing ember
There are friendships to remember
So we'll sing
One last good night
Good night
"Girl Scouts Together" Lyrics
Girl scouts together that is our song
Winding the old trails, rocky and long
Learning our motto, living our creed
Girl scouts together in every good deed.
Girl scouts together happy are we
Friendly to neighbors far o'er the sea
Faithful to country loyal to home
Known as true Girl Scouts wherever we roam.
Girl scouts together onward we go
Joining as sisters stronger we grow
Mothers and lawyers, women in space
We know no boundaries, the future's our place.
"Edelweiss" Lyrics
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
Fun Fact: Edelweiss is the national flower of Switzerland. It usually represents devotion and deep love because it has a short life span and is grown in the most remote, rockiest areas of the Alps. It is difficult to find, so when the flowers were harvested and given to someone, it is a true testament to that person's love and devotion.
"Make New Friends" Lyrics
Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver, the other is gold. | A circle is round, it has no end. That's how long, I will be your friend. | A fire burns bright, it warms the heart. We've been friends, from the very start. | You have one hand, I have the other. Put them together, we have each other. | Silver is precious, gold is too. I am precious, and so are you. | You help me and I'll help you and together we will see it through. | The sky is blue. The Earth is green. I can help to keep it clean. | Across the land, Across the sea; Friends forever we will always be.
"Taps" Lyrics
Day is done
Gone the sun
From the lakes
From the hills
From the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh
Closing Prayer
Prayer Leader: For the closing ceremony, we always end with prayer. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
